How to Analyze a Mock Test and Improve Your Score

GyanSanchar · 2 Nov 2026

Two students take the same ten mock tests. One improves steadily and the other stays where she started. The difference is almost never the number of tests, but what each does after the test is over.

Step 1: Analyze within 24 hours

While the questions are fresh, go through the whole paper, including the questions you got right by guessing or took too long on.

Step 2: Sort every lost mark into one of four types

  • Concept gap: you did not know the idea. Go back to the chapter and relearn it.

  • Calculation or silly mistake: you knew it but made an error. Slow down on the step that failed.

  • Time problem: you could solve it but ran out of time. Practice faster methods or skip smarter.

  • Question not attempted: you left it because it looked unfamiliar. Learn to read and break down new questions.

Step 3: Keep an error log

Write each mistake in a notebook: the question, the type of mistake and the correct approach. Review it every week. A pattern appears quickly, for example "I make sign mistakes in Physics" or "I forget formulas in Organic Chemistry".

Step 4: Look at subjects and topics, not only the total

A total score hides a lot. Look at each subject and each topic. For instance, a student may be strong in Physics, average in Chemistry and weak in one Mathematics chapter. That chapter is the next week's priority.

Step 5: Plan the next two weeks from the analysis

Turn what you found into a short to-do list: topics to relearn, questions to redo and one habit to change in the next test, such as attempting the easy questions first.

Step 6: Re-test the weak topics

A week later, take a short test only on the topics you fixed. If the marks improve, the loop worked.

Reports help

At Gyan Sanchar, every test comes with a performance report showing strong and weak subjects, and your mentor can suggest a booster test for the weak area. You can also try our free EQ test, or book a free demo class to see our test series.
