How to Study Physics for JEE: A Concept-First Method
GyanSanchar · 25 Oct 2026

Physics is the subject many JEE aspirants fear, and also the one where a clear method gives the biggest rewards. The problem is rarely lack of effort. It is usually studying Physics like a subject to memorize, when it is really a subject to understand.
Step 1: Understand the idea in plain words
Before you open a formula, explain the concept to yourself in simple language. What is happening, and why? For example, in Laws of Motion, ask what forces act on each object before you write any equation.
Step 2: Draw it
Almost every Physics problem becomes easier with a clear diagram. Draw the situation, mark the forces, directions and known values. Many mistakes in JEE come from a missing or wrong diagram.
Step 3: Derive, do not just memorize
Try to derive important formulas at least once. Knowing where an equation comes from tells you when it applies and when it does not.
Step 4: Practice in levels
Basic: direct NCERT-level questions to fix the concept.
Medium: multi-step problems.
Hard: mixed-concept and previous-year questions.
Do not jump to hard questions before the basic ones feel easy.
Step 5: Learn to check your answer
Check units, signs and whether the answer is sensible. This habit saves marks in a paper where one slip costs a full question.
Step 6: Keep a formula and concept sheet
Keep a single page per chapter with key formulas, conditions and common traps. Review it before every test.
Step 7: Revise by solving
Revising Physics means solving again, not rereading. Redo the questions you got wrong after a week.
Common mistakes
Watching lectures without solving problems.
Collecting too many books and finishing none.
Ignoring Modern Physics and Optics because they look easy.
