ICSE Class 10 Mathematics: How to Prepare and Score High
GyanSanchar · 26 Oct 2026

ICSE Class 10 Mathematics covers a wide syllabus, and answers are marked step by step. Students who combine strong concepts with neat, complete working do well.
Know the paper
The paper is divided into a compulsory section of short questions and a second section where you choose from several longer questions. Marks for internal assessment are added separately. Check the latest CISCE syllabus and specimen paper for the current pattern.
Group the syllabus
Algebra and Commercial Mathematics
GST, Banking, Shares and Dividends, Linear Inequations, Quadratic Equations, Ratio and Proportion, Matrices and Arithmetic and Geometric Progression. These are formula-based and very scoring. Understand the terms (for example "face value" or "recurring deposit") before solving.
Geometry
Similarity, Loci, Circles, Constructions and Coordinate Geometry. Practice the theorems and constructions with proper instruments, and mark all steps.
Mensuration and Trigonometry
Cylinder, cone and sphere with formulas, and Trigonometry with identities and heights and distances.
Statistics and Probability
Mean, median and mode, graphs such as histograms and ogives, and probability.
Step marking matters
Write the formula, substitute, solve and state the answer with units.
Keep your working neat and in order so the examiner can follow it.
Do not skip steps, even obvious ones.
Practice graphs and constructions
Graph work is easy to lose marks on. Use a sharp pencil, label the axes and scale clearly and mark all points.
Use the right books and papers
Solve the textbook your school uses end to end.
Solve the last ten years of ICSE papers and the latest specimen paper.
Attend school tests and prelims seriously, since they show your weak spots.
Revision plan
In the final two months, revise one topic group per week, then take a full paper every weekend in the allotted time. Keep an error log of mistakes and revisit it.
