After Class 12 (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
NEET UG
NEET UG is the national entrance exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and several other medical and allied courses in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). AIIMS and JIPMER no longer hold separate entrance exams, so one score covers government and private medical seats.

Eligibility in brief
- You must have passed Class 12 (or an equivalent exam), or be appearing in it, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English.
- Minimum marks in the qualifying exam: 50% for the General category, 40% for SC, ST and OBC, and 45% for General PwD candidates.
- The minimum age is 17 years by 31 December of the year of admission. Check the bulletin for the other age and category rules.
Rules change from year to year. Always confirm dates, fees and eligibility in the official notice before you apply.
Counselling
After the result, counselling decides your seat. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) handles the All India Quota and central institutes, and each state conducts counselling for its own seats.
Syllabus and weightage
- Biology carries half of the marks, so it needs half of your preparation time. NCERT is the base for almost every question.
- Physics needs concepts and regular numerical practice.
- Chemistry combines physical, organic and inorganic chemistry. Inorganic chemistry should be read from NCERT line by line.
How to prepare
- 1
Make NCERT your base
Read the Biology and Chemistry textbooks line by line, including diagrams and tables.
- 2
Study Biology every day
Regular reading and revision beats cramming, because Biology is half of the paper.
- 3
Practise Physics numericals
Learn the concepts first, then solve graded problems daily.
- 4
Revise on a schedule
Revise a topic the next day, after a week and after a month.
- 5
Take full tests
Practise the full paper in the real time of 3 hours 20 minutes and analyse each test.
